Thanks to Multicultural Kid Blogs I had the chance to review a very interesting book written by Giselle of Kids Yoga Stories: Sophia’s Jungle Adventure- a fun, interactive and educational kids yoga story.
I read it with my 8-year old son who happily mirrored the yoga poses (even if he was in jeans!!).
We quite enjoyed it. Here’s what we liked about it the most:
- We could choose our preferred language between a large choice: English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Russian or Chinese.
- The yoga posesare simple and are illustrated in a very clear way
- The story keeps kids (from 4 to 8 years old) engaged and interested
- It is a fun activity to connect with children
We could plan hours of activities around it as the story is based in Costa Rica: yoga, geography, animals and crafts.
For this last reason I think it would be a great resource for preschoolers’ teachers and I am definitely going to suggest it to the school of my 5-year old.
With my daughter I will learn the story almost by heart so that I can show her the images and the positions without interruption.
So I must say that even if I am used to videos to do yoga with the kids, the books of Giselle are very inspiring and expand the boundaries of yoga trying to “bring education, health and happiness to young children everywhere”. (Mission for Kids Yoga Stories).
Check out the website kidsyogastories. It is a gold mine of resources for parents who’d like to incorporate yoga in their kids’ lives: there are different themes and stories and even a bedtime yoga pack. Maybe a good way to calm the kids before bed? There is always hope J
