My children love «jelly candies » (fruchtbaeren of Haribo to be clear) so when I found a recipe to make them at home, they were jumping of happiness. At the beginning I thought it would be difficult, but it really isn’t.
All you need is some kind of juice, ice trays or chocolate tray like the one we got from Ikea, and a bit of agar-agar. Here there is the full recipe:
1 cup of apple juice
4 tablespoons of sugar
1 teaspoon of agar-agar powder
Few drops of food coloring
Mix in a pot the juice with the sugar and let it boil for 5 minutes.
Move the pot far from the fire and add the agar-agar.
Color with few drops of food coloring and pour the mixuter in the ice trays. Place in the fridge for 2 hours. ENJOY !!
Kids said they are even better that the bought ones!! They last up to 3 days in a fresh place, but ours actually lasted less than 24 hours.
For the lollipops we followed the same procedure but eliminated the agar-agar and used 1 full cup of sugar instead.
During Easter’s holidays we are planning to make many different colors candies: much less sugar and no chemicals J
